Thinking long term is often a wide decision when it comes to decorating a nursery. Plenty of first time parents adopt a neutral theme for their baby's room for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, if you are planning of having another child one day, pick some gender neutral colours such as cream, green, brown and white, or even look at various shades of red and yellow. This can save you from having to totally redecorate again, even if your baby will be a different sex. You can buy some brightly coloured rugs, mobiles and pillows to provide some contrast.
Secondly, if your baby will use the same room when they are a toddler and even older, a neutral theme is easy to modify with a tweak here and there.
